Need to get stuff done? Try these awesome productivity apps!

You love apps, we love apps. They are like cookies—such a treat when you find one you love.

Since our team is located in 3 different US cities, productivity apps have a special place in our heart—apps allow us to collaborate, share ideas and design mock-ups, make system updates and keep bringing you our classes, bootcamps and other content at a swifter pace.

Often, when we find ourselves in impromptu “app parties.” You know you are at an app party when you find yourself at a conference table (or dinner table) with your smart phone out, demo-ing the latest, and greatest, app. These little app parties are one of our favorite life events, and we wanted to include YOU, the Skillcrush audience.

So join our app party! Below you will find the productivity apps we love, but we want to hear about the apps that help you get all your SH*T done! Tell us the top three apps you use to supercharge your productivity.

Adda Birnir – Founder, CEO

Google Docs – I use the spreadsheets for EVERYTHING. Cash flow analysis, business budgeting, bug trackers, feature specs, to do lists, data analysis. I am a total addict.

Orchestra To Do app (on the iphone) – Best way I have found to assign myself to dos while commuting on the subway ;)

BufferApp – BufferApp was a total revelation to us when we first found it. So cool to be able to so easily track our social media sharing.

Kate McGee -Founder, CCO, Designer

Google Hangouts – online or on my phone, I love being able to see people while doing interviews or talking about a new partnership.

Mailbox – helps me keep my mailbox so much closer to zero.

Fontcase – I have my fonts synced on dropbox so I have the same fonts on all my computers.

We have these three apps integrated with one another such that a git commit message will automatically update a PT story, and all this activity is fed into a HipChat room. The persistency of HipChat means the entire history for PT stories and projects is all in one place. This is incredibly powerful for the team because we can all see exactly what others are working on, how much progress they’ve made on a story, discussions about stories, etc.

Air Display – I’m obsessed with the idea of my mobile office. I carry a macbook, my ipad mini,  my iphone and all my accessories everywhere with me at all times – all of it fits in my cross-body messenger bag so I can work from anywhere without compromising the type of work I do. I can have three screens, 2 with touch capabilities. Great when working on code, spreadsheets, email, giving a presentation or pitch and more.

Evernote – Evernote isn’t new, but I still find new uses for it all the time. I also love how quick and easy it is to launch. I have notebooks for a variety of topics, it never crashes, everything is tagged and categorized and synced across my devices. It’s fab for conferences too. I hardly ever take anyone’s business card…I just snap a pic of it into Evernote and hand it right back to them. The image text is searchable, and I add helpful notes about each contact.

Textastic – I just recently downloaded and started using this code editor on my ipad mini. It syncs with Dropbox and across my iphone (admitedly, I rarely code anything on my iphone), ipad and Mac. I particularly love it on the ipad because, along with the Logitech Keyboard/cover (Thanks to former Skillcrush student Miguel G for turning me onto this!) , it’s a really decent setup for front-end web development on the fly.
