43 Techy Jobs Outside of Tech to Apply for Today

You don’t have to be a programmer to have a great job in tech.

Woot woot!

What’s that sound? It’s the tech train leaving now for all stations in “Career Land.” Do you have your ticket? Or will you be left standing on the platform…?

By now, I’m sure you know that jobs in technology can pay the big bucks and be endlessly interesting and rewarding. (Not to mention flexible!) But you’re no web dev or design diva…and maybe you don’t have any desire to be.

That doesn’t mean that you’re banned from the wonderful world of tech. In fact, as a recent article in Forbes reveals, “people without a tech degree may already be benefiting the most from tech’s boom.” That means you—yes, you!—a liberal arts degree-wielding, never-contemplated-working-in-tech person might be exactly what a start-up or heavy hitter like Google, Facebook, or Apple is looking for.

And outside of strictly technical jobs, learning some tech skills can make you faster, more effective, and more innovative in your own field.

Marketing

As much as we love Mad Men, marketing has definitely evolved since the days of Don Draper. (Thank goodness!) Now marketers work in a global and social realm with customers demanding media-rich, mobile-responsive ads to both inform and entertain.

Social Media

What says “Internet age” more than social media? The Web is almost unimaginable without the phenomena of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. (And what in the world would you do without Snapchat while you’re waiting in line at the grocery store??)

As strange as it might seem, you can also make a career out of social media, besides becoming the next viral Viner! Someone has to figure out how to fill a company’s social media feeds, manage its online community, and iron out the strategies that drives it all.

And that person is a product manager. Your days in this role would be filled with collaboration with designers and developers, evaluating market research, testing, and
ensuring that the entire team is working towards producing the best possible results.

You’ll be there from the start in the planning phase, and you’ll coordinate the work, motivate your team, and make sure it all stays within budget, on schedule, and within scope.

For technical projects, you’ll need to understand the systems and tools behind the project as well as the kind of challenges and limitations faced by those working on the project. And you better have a serious love of organizational software and tools because they’ll play a significant role in your working life in project management.
