Are There Scholarships for Learning to Code?

Coding bootcamps can be expensive, but we found scholarships that can help you learn to code online, for less.

A code school or coding bootcamp can cost anywhere from $1,480 to $30,000 — for example, the Grace Hopper Program at Fullstack Academy costs $17,910.

While that’s still cheaper than enrolling in a traditional computer science or web development program at a university, it’s still not necessarily affordable, especially for low-income individuals.

Here at Skillcrush, we keep our tuition affordable to give our students a better chance to Break into Tech — our flagship program costs about $2,499, before applying any special discounts — and we offer discounts for unemployment, service members, and full-time students.

We’ve recently written a post all about the different ways to pay for coding bootcamps, including ISAs, student loans, cash upfront, or coding bootcamp scholarships. In this post, we’re going to take a closer look at scholarships for learning to code.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of scholarships for bootcamps the way there are for universities. In other words, you can’t apply for scholarships or use federal financial aid for coding bootcamps, so all of the scholarships we found in this post are particular to specific coding schools.

You may find that even with scholarships some of these programs are outside of your budget. If that’s the case, we would encourage you to sign up for our free coding camp and take a look at Skillcrush, including our Break Into Tech Program with Job Guarantee.

If you want to get into coding or even design, but are worried about how to pay for it, read on to see what programs offer scholarships to help you join the ranks of coders.
