Twitter users are three times more likely to follow a brand than Facebook users, according to a 2010 survey conducted by Edison Research, so get out there and grab that low-hanging social media fruit. One great way to use Twitter and to increase brand awareness is to host a Twitter chat. If you do it right, a chat can be a home run for your product or brand. Here are a few tips for running a successful Twitter chat.
Decide on a theme
Come up with a topic that you will focus on. Make sure it is one that your engaged customers want to know about. What do they tend to comment on or ask about in regards to your brand? In what area do you have expertise?
Once you have decided on the right day and time (and hopefully you have used traffic analytics to pinpoint the time of day when you have the most engagement), stick with it and promote it. Do not change the time!
Make a Hashtag and Promote It
Once you have come up with your topic and the date, create a relevant hashtag to promote it. Promote the hashtag on your company’s social media sites, website, and through email.
Consider bringing on a special guest
You will often see magazines host a Twitter chat with a celebrity to get more people involved. Why not bring on an expert for yours?
