Break Into Tech

Where do you currently work and what is your job title?

I work at Blue Bridge Development as a Support Web Developer.

How would you describe what you do every day in your role?

I respond to customers’ requests such as content management, fixing issues like a plugin returning an error to websites completely crashing. Additionally, working on ongoing projects like re-doing the homepage of a website.

What motivated you to break into tech?

I really didn’t like my job at all, I heard wonderful stories of people working in tech, how they felt fulfilled and had better benefits + salary and I wanted all that. I’ve also wanted to do a major in CS but didn’t feel capable to do it at the time. After months of receiving Skillcrush’s newsletters and getting involved with more women in tech I finally got the courage to go ahead and do it, I was pursuing a dream of being more satisfied with my life.

What did you do before your current job?

I majored in business engineering and worked mostly as a financial analyst.

What was your level of tech experience before enrolling at Skillcrush?

I’d only taken a semester in Python and some basic HTML/CSS courses, so I would say no experience and very little knowledge.

What advice do you have for other Skillcrushers?

DO IT! It’s really worth the shot, even if you’re scared, even if it takes time, even if you get frustrated. Take the lessons, do the homework, get engaged in the wonderful community, take advantage of every opportunity you see on Skillcrush, and ask as many questions as you need.
