Where do you currently work and what is your job title?

Figure Technologies, Inc. as an Associate Quality Control Analyst

How would you describe what you do every day in your role?

My job is to test new or corrected features that the software engineers on my team create to make sure that those features work and are good enough to push to production.

What motivated you to break into tech?

I had gotten my undergrad degree in Chemical Engineering, but after graduating I realized it wasn’t for me. I started learning to code out of curiosity and realized I enjoyed it much more than ChemE. I started doing research about the tech industry and loved how lucrative and progressive it was. It was also a relief to learn I didn’t need to have a degree in order to break into tech. So, I figured why not try to pursue a career in tech? And I did!

What did you do before your current job?

Before I got my current job I worked part time in retail and as a part time caretaker for an elderly woman.

What was your level of tech experience before enrolling at Skillcrush?

Python was the first language I tried to teach myself when I first was interested in coding. It introduced me to the basics of a coding language, but that was about it.

What advice do you have for other Skillcrushers?

My advice is to stay consistent in your lessons and take your time to actually understand everything you’re being taught. Knowing that you know your stuff that is how you gain confidence when moving forward in the job search.
