Amanda Wong | Production Analyst

Where do you currently work and what is your job title?

I’m a production analyst at AmeriHealth Caritas

How would you describe what you do every day in your role?

I assist the Creative team in designing digital and print materials for our clients. So far, I’ve created social graphics, menus, signage, web mockups, business cards, newsletters, and other marketing materials.

What motivated you to break into tech?

I was unfortunately laid off due to COVID, so I decided to take the time to figure out what I wanted to do with my career. I was always interested in design and wanted to have more creativity in my next role. I did some research and eventually ended up on a Skillcrush blog post about tech careers in design. I also took a web design class in college and remembered how much I enjoyed it, so I decided to go for it and sign up for Skillcrush’s Break Into Tech course. I had so much fun working on the projects and knew I wanted to change my career into design.

What did you do before your current job?

Before I changed careers, I worked in product development as an Assistant Product Manager at a retail company. In that role, I worked with overseas vendors to develop retail products and manage their life cycles.

What was your level of tech experience before enrolling at Skillcrush?

The only tech experience I had prior to enrolling at Skillcrush was taking a web design class in college for a semester.

What advice do you have for other Skillcrushers?

Networking is your best friend! It opens doors to opportunities and is super important especially when you’re transitioning into a new career/industry.
